Command line
You start DGen by running its program, dgen (dgen.exe on Windows). With no options, it serves the studio and opens it in your browser.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
dgen | Serves the studio on http://localhost:4890 (or the port of your config) and opens it in your browser. |
dgen --version | Prints the version and its build, then exits. |
dgen --help | Prints the help (what DGen is, the commands, the options, your DGen folder), then exits. Also dgen -h and dgen help. |
Options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
--home <folder> | Runs on this DGen folder for this run, outside your profiles. The DGEN_HOME variable does the same. |
--no-open | Serves the studio without opening a browser tab. Open http://localhost:4890 yourself. |
--host <address> | The network address DGen listens on. 127.0.0.1 when left out: only this computer can open the studio. |
A word or option DGen does not know prints what it did not understand and the usage, and starts nothing.
--host and your network
dgen --host 0.0.0.0 lets every machine on your network open the studio, for example a tablet on your Wi-Fi. DGen then prints the addresses to open, and a loud warning: anyone who reaches it sees and loads your Daz library. Use it only on a network you trust, and never on a public one.
The port
DGen serves on port 4890. To use another one, set port in your profile's config.json (in your DGen folder):
{ "port": 4891 }
Keep the other keys of the file as they are. If you start DGen while it already runs, from version 1.32.12 it opens the studio's tab again; in 1.32.11 the second start stops, its port already taken.
Stop DGen
Close its console window (Windows), or press Ctrl C in its terminal (Mac, Linux).
Internal commands
dgen bake <kind> ... is what DGen runs by itself to build a body, a clip or a room from your library. You never need to run it.
