Profiles
A profile is a name and a DGen folder. The folder holds everything the profile keeps: its config.json (its libraries and folders, its early access login), its cache and, by default, its presets, HDRI rooms, Mixamo clips and scenes.
Use profiles to keep two setups apart: your full library and a small test library, or two Daz libraries on two disks.
The DGen folder
The profile default is your DGen folder itself:
| System | Default DGen folder |
|---|---|
| Windows | C:\Users\<you>\.dgen |
| Mac | /Users/<you>/.dgen |
| Linux | /home/<you>/.dgen |
Inside it, by default:
| Folder or file | What it holds |
|---|---|
config.json | the profile's config: its libraries, folders, cache cap and early access login |
cache/ | what DGen builds from your library, and the copies of an ssh library's files |
presets/ | your scene presets and their pictures |
hdri/ | your HDRI rooms |
mixamo/ | your Mixamo clips |
scenes/ | your scene files |
reports/ | the reports you made |
profiles.json | the list of your profiles (in the default folder only) |
Each of the folders can be moved in the config popup (see First run and the config).
Switch, make and forget profiles
Open the config (the profile button at the top, or Ctrl ,). The profiles are the round avatars at the top of the popup, the one in use ringed.
- Switch: click another profile's avatar. DGen starts again on that profile and the tab reloads onto it.
- Make one: click the + avatar and give it a name. Its folder defaults to
.dgen/<name>in your home folder. A new profile opens on its Daz library tab, as on a first run. - Forget one: the small ✕ on an avatar, when the pointer is on it. DGen forgets the profile, never its folder: your files stay on the disk.
The profile button at the top of the studio shows the profile in use: its avatar and its name.
One run on another folder
dgen --home <folder> runs DGen once on that folder, outside the profiles (the DGEN_HOME variable does the same). See Command line.
