Troubleshooting and FAQ
The studio says WebGPU is missing, or shows nothing
DGen draws with WebGPU.
- Use a current Chrome or Edge. Update it (Help, About) and restart it.
- Open
chrome://gpu(oredge://gpu) and look for WebGPU: Hardware accelerated. - If it is not, update your graphics driver. On a laptop with two graphics chips, set the browser to use the high performance one.
- Check that Use graphics acceleration when available is on in the browser's settings (System).
If it still fails, send a report: it carries what your browser says about WebGPU.
Windows or macOS blocks the program
The program is not signed yet, so the system warns once.
- Windows: on "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
- macOS: open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to the message about
dgen. Then run it again. - Linux: if it says permission denied, run
chmod +x dgen.
The scan finds nothing, or not Genesis 9
- The folder must be your Daz library folder: the one that holds
data,PeopleandRuntime, not Daz Studio's program folder. In Daz Studio, Edit, Preferences, Content, Content Directory Manager lists your library folders. - Genesis 9 Starter Essentials must be installed in one of the folders you gave. Add every library folder you use with + folder.
- A path copied with quotes (as Windows copies it) is fine: DGen drops them.
- Click save and scan to scan again after you install something.
The first load is slow
The first time DGen shows a body, a clip, a garment, a hair or a room, it builds it from your Daz files: a few seconds each, shown in the loading panel. It keeps the result in its cache, so the next time is fast. A new version of DGen builds them again once.
If the frames are slow all the time, lower Resolution or Max fps under Performance (see The studio), pick the Plain room or the shadow None.
The page went blank or froze
Reload the page. If it happens again, send a report. If the page cannot even start its graphics, the report still goes, with no picture.
A scene says it needs a product
That scene uses a Daz product your library lacks. Missing for this scene, under the scene bar, names it and links its store page. An optional one only turns a piece off; a mandatory one stops the scene from opening.
A clip I added does not show
Mixamo clips must be .fbx files in the Mixamo folder of the profile in use (the Clips tab of the config). Reload the page after you add one.
Where are my files?
In your DGen folder: .dgen in your home folder (see Profiles). The config, the cache, your presets, HDRI rooms, Mixamo clips, scenes and reports are all there, unless you moved one in the config. DGen never writes into your Daz library.
The cache is too big
Lower its cap in the Storage tab of the config: DGen deletes what you used least recently, at once. Or move it to another disk there.
Can someone else open my studio?
No. DGen listens only on your own computer, and refuses requests from other web sites. The one exception is --host (see Command line).
Does DGen send anything?
Only what you ask: a report when you send one, and your early access login when it checks for updates. Your Daz library never leaves your machine.
Uninstall
- Stop DGen.
- Delete the program's folder.
- Delete your DGen folder (
.dgenin your home folder) to remove your settings, presets, cache and reports too.
Still stuck?
Ask on the House of Rionysus Discord, or send a report from the studio.
